Shiitake Mushroom Log Kit Internationally renowned for its rich taste and iconic use in gourmet dishes, the shiitake mushroom is a great addition to any grower’s garden. They have potential to fruit for up to eight years in hardwood logs.
These log kits include full instructions, spawn, a drill bit, waxing brush, wax, and dowels for inoculating the wood. Please note that the log is NOT included. The ideal log would be from a hardwood tree, such as Oak, Beech, Birch, Chestnut, Alder, Ash or Hornbeam, and would have been cut for 2-6 weeks. It should have a diameter of 20 - 35cm and be 50cm-100cm long. This allows the natural fungicides in the wood to die back, but it's not too long that the wood had dried out or had a chance to be infected with a competing fungi. The bark should be clean an intact, cut any branches off. Depending on the quality of the log, they can produce several times a growing season, for up to 8 years!
