Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Lightly cover seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a temperature of between 18-21C (65-70F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination which usually takes 7-21 days.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 15-20cm (6-8in) apart in well-drained soil in full sun.
