Cowslip in a native British wildflower commonly found in hedgerows, meadows and in woodlands. The leaves are similar to the primrose and the creamy-yellow nodding, fragrant flowers are born on straight stems. Grow in the sun or partial shade in good garden soil. Flowers from April to May.

When to Sow Cowslip Seeds

May to October

Sow Inside

In a tray, on the surface of good quality compost (without sand). Cover with glass until germination takes place. Germination may be slow, so be patient!  To encourage the seed to break dormancy, it may be frozen and thawed several times by placing in the refrigerator before sowing.

What to do Next

Transplant seedlings into pots and grow on until large enough to plant out in final growing positions.
