When to Sow Serge Pea Shoots

Sow all year round for pea shoots. If growing as a traditional pea, sow seeds outside from April to June when the soil will be warmer.

How to Grow Pea Shoots

Select a seed tray or container 5-7cm (2-3in) deep . Fill with seed sowing compost, and sow serge pea seeds 1.5cm (1/2in) deep with a small gap between seeds.

What to do Next

Place the seed tray on a windowsill or underglass and keep moist. The crop will be ready to harvest in just 3 weeks after sowing, when the shoots are approximately 7-10cm (3-4in) tall. Snip off and use as a garnish. If cut correctly, these pea shoots will produce another harvest.
If growing pea plants, you may need to support them as they grow bigger. They will produce long pods filed with sweetly flavoured peas.

Handy Tip

If grown as a traditional pea, the plants may needs supports and netting to protect them from birds and pests.
