Red campion is a herbaceous perennial plant, classed as both a herb and wildflower. Lovely pink -  red campion flowers which look pretty growing through and between more bushy plants. A soap substitute, containing saponins which form a lather in water.
Habitat: open woodland and light shade.

Sow Outside

Sow red campion seeds in spring. Prepare a fine seed bed and lightly rake into the surface. Perferably in partial shade is ideal.

Grow

En mass in a shady situation together with bluebells will make a spectacular sight.The plant has many country names. In Wales it is the Snakes Flower and in Somerset Adders Flower. The Manx name for the Campion is blee-ferish or Faries Flower. Other local names include Cock Robin, Red Robin Hood, Robin-run-in-the hedge, Soldiers Buttons, Johnny Woods, Devils Flower, Cuckoo Flower, Billy Buttons.

Naturalising

Th Red Campion will naturalise quickly in damp woodland.
