We recommend sowing sweet pea seeds into a good quality seed sowing compost and water with tap water rather than water from a water butt. Butt water can contain harmful pathogens, resulting in poor germination.

When to Sow Air Warden Sweet Pea Seeds

September to April

Where to Sow

September sowings in flowering site 2cm (3/4") deep. Later sowings in pots 5 seeds in each. October and November sowings in a cold frame. January sowings in a heated glasshouse. March sowings in a cold frame. April sowings direct to flowering site.

What to do next

Glasshouse raised sweet pea seedlings should be hardened off during March and planted out the following month. Plant direct into the flowering site with 15cm (6") spacings. Thin any direct sown seedlings to 10cm (4") apart. Pinch the tops of the flowers regularly to encourage new and stronger growth.
