When to sow

February to June

Where to sow

Under cover sow seeds on the surface of moist seed compost and cover with sieved compost or vermiculite to the depth of the seeds. Place at a temperature of between 18-21°C (65-70°F) until germination which usually takes 10-21 days.

What to do next

When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30-45cm (12-18") apart in full sun. Late summer sowings should be overwintered in a coldframe and planted out the following spring.

Flowers

July to September

Handy Tip

Cut back plants in the autumn and new shoots will reappear the following spring.
