When to Plant Jerusalem Original Artichoke Tubers

March to May

Where to Plant

Jerusalem Artichokes are very hard and although very tall, will thrive in most situations but they do prefer well-drained soil. Plant 10cm-13cm (4-5") deep and 75cm (30") apart; bear in mind that they do need a lot of space and will cast a deep shade if planted too close to other crops.

What to do next

Earthing up as the plants grow will help withstand wind damage. They do not need high fertility but a small amount of fertiliser and organic matter will benefit the crop. Only water during prolonged dry spells.

Harvest

Harvest from Autumn onwards after the foliage has died, the tubers can be lifted and stored in a clamp. Do not let the tubers dry out after lifting, they are prone to shrivel.

A separate postage charge of £3.75 will apply for artichoke tubers orders.
