Pepper (Sweet) Poupila

Description

Sweet pepper with upright fruits that go from light yellow to red. Stunning in pots on the windowsill or on the patio as an edible ornament.

As easy to grow as tomatoes and requiring much of the same treatment. Peppers can be grown outside, so long as they are in a sheltered sunny area, but best results are usually obtained when they are grown in a polytunnel or a glasshouse. Peppers are delicious when used raw in salads but are also very tasty when cooked. They can be stuffed, roasted or added to sauces.

When to Sow Poupila Seeds

February to April

Where to Sow

Sow seed on the surface of a free draining compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite and place at a temperature of 18-21°C until the seeds germinate.

What to do next

Prick out the seedlings when large enough to handle into 7cm (3") pots and grow on under glass. Once the plants reach 10cm (4") high, transplant into 15-25cm (6-10") pots and grow on in windowsills or a sunny patio. Feed once a week with tomato fertiliser once the first fruits have set.

Harvest

July to October

Nutritional Values

A good source of Vitamin C and beta carotene.

Handy Tip

Move containers outside to a patio once all risk of frost has passed. In autumn move back undercover to ripen any remaining fruits.
