Description

Red Vein Spinach is an attractive variety of spinach that can be grown all the year round; outside in the spring, summer and autumn and then under protection in the winter. Even on your window sill! To grow indoors ensure the developing plants receive plenty of light and are kept frost free. All you have to do then is just cut off the leaves when required. This is a unique variety thats ideal for baby leaf salads. The leaves are oriental shaped, green coloured with an attractive red stem, and they are sweet in flavour. Good resistance to mildrew.

When to Sow Red Vein Spinach Seeds

March to May or July to October

Where to Sow

Sow seeds direct into thegrowing site, thinly in shallow drills at 2cm (3/4in) deep. Leave 30cm (12in) between the rows. For later sowings, some cloche protection may be required.

What to do next

As seedlings grow gradually thin out seedlings to 15cm (6in) apart. Water well during dry spells of weather to avoid premature bolting. . Pick leaves as required.

Handy Tip

Pick when young and add raw baby leaves to salads. Pick leaves regularly when young and tender for a mild flavour.
