Carrot Seeds

Growing carrots from seed is easy to do. They are one of the least demanding of crops and probably the widest grown crop in vegetable gardens. We have a wide range so take a look at what we have to offer. Whether you'd prefer traditional varieties such as Early nantes carrots, short chantenay carrots or something more unique such as purple sun or rainbow carrot seeds, we're sure that we will have something for you.
Depending on the variety, sowing can start under cloches as early as March for a first picking in June. Carrot seedlings will appear within 21 days. If grown under the proper conditions, then germination can be quicker.
One drawback of growing your own carrots is the possibility of an attack by the carrot fly. They are attracted to the scent given off when thinning the crop. The best way to avoid the problem is to sow seeds carefully and thinly so that thinning is not necessary. If they do become an issue, we have carrot fly netting available to help protect your crops! Another issue that you may come across when trying to grow carrots is bolting. One sign of this is carrot flowers may be produced, and the carrots themself will be smaller than expected. Bolting can occur when there is premature warm weather. Sowing carrot seeds in succession can help this issue, so if some have bolted, you should still get a good batch!
