Beetroot Detroit Globe

Description

Beetroot seeds - Detroit Globe was introduced nearly a century ago and still one of the favourites for main crop sowing. Deep red flesh, marvellous flavour and stores well. Easy to grow and much more tasty than fresh shop bought beetroot. It should be harvested just at the right time when the size of a tennis ball. The plant itself grows up to 30cm tall and 15cm wide. We recommend successional sowing to produce high yields that will store well.

When to Sow Detroit Globe Seeds

March to July. Germination can take place in 12-14 days.

Where to Sow

Sow thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm (½") deep with 30cm (12") between rows.

What to do Next

Thin the seedlings gradually as they grow to an eventual spacing of 10cm (4"). Do not transplant.

Handy Tip

For a plentiful supply of sweet small roots, sow successionally at fortnightly intervals.
