Sow seeds on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost and lightly cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or a warm place until after germination which usually takes 10-21 days.
Transplant seedlings, when large enough to handle into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
Plants can be selected for doubleness. (After germination let seedlings cool for a few days and it will be easier to see the different colour seedlings, the pale green seedlings are doubles) Discard the dark green seedlings these will be single flowered.
