Dog Rose (Rosa canina) Perennial Shrub
The Dog Rose is a familiar and welcome sight in full flower in June. The pale to rich pink single flowers are fragrant. The stems are strong and spiky. Flowers are followed by a profusion of scarlet flask shaped hips which are very high in vitamin C and are used to make syrup and wine. These are also a fantastic treat for wildlife, especially birds.
The leaves make a fragrant tea. Habitat: hedgerows.
