When to Sow Sahara Rudbeckia Seeds

Sow February to April. Plant out from May to June.

Flowers

July to September.

Where to Sow

Sow seed on the surface of good, free-draining, seed compost in pots or trays. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or a warm place at a temperature of 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which usually takes 7-21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.

What to do Next

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.

Handy Tip

Rudbeckia are very weather resistant, so are ideal for planting in an exposed or sheltered border. Cut stems should be plunged into deep water immediately to prolong vase life.
