Taking a pH Reading:
Switch to the pH setting. Push the probe into the moist soil up to 12cm deep and wait 60 seconds to take a reading. Take two to three readings in different places. A reading of 7 is pH neutral. Between 3.5 and 7 is acid. To make the soil more alkaline, for evert 1 pH add approximately 300 grams per square metre of lime. Above 7 is alkaline. To make the soil more acidic, for every 1pH add approximately 70 grams per square centimetre of sulphate of ammonia.
Taking a Moisture Reading:
Switch to the moist setting. Push the probe into the soil at an angle to reach the roots of the plant and not the stem. A reading between 1, 2 and 3 means the plant will require watering. A reading between 8,9 and 10 means the plant is too wet. Allow to dry out and then take another reading in a day or so.
Taking a Light Reading:
Switch to the light setting. Push the probe into the soil near the plant stems with the centre light sensor facing towards the light. Check the reading and adjust the plants position if required, based on the plants growing instructions.
