Onion  White Lisbon (RHS Award of Garden Merit) Description:

The traditional "Spring" onion. Long white stems with bright green tops which are slow to form a bulb. Mild flavour. Sow from March to July.

WHEN TO SOW
February to July

 

WHERE TO SOW  

Early sowings in a cold frame or under cloches 1cm (½") deep. Later sowings in rows 1cm (½") deep with 20cm (8") between rows.  

WHAT TO DO NEXT

Salad or Spring Onions do not need transplanting or thinning. Remove cloches or frame cover by mid-April. Pull alternate Onions to naturally thin the crop during the season.

12 weeks from sowing  

HANDY TIPS

Ideal for successional sowing for all Summer crop. As they are in the garden for such a short time, they can be grown in between slower growing vegetables.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE

Antibacterial and Antiseptic properties, due to beneficial sulphur compounds. A good source of antioxidants, such as quercetin and anthocyanin.
