Great all round variety. Large globe shaped golden brown bulbs with excellent keeping qualities but can be susceptible to downy mildew. WHEN TO SOW February to April. WHERE TO SOW Early sowings in trays in a greenhouse at not less than 15ƒC, only lightly covering with compost. Later sowings outside in a shallow drill 1cm deep. WHAT TO DO NEXT Glasshouse seedlings should be pricked off into trays when about 15cm tall 5cm apart. Harden off and plant in growing site 15cm apart in early April. Outdoor sowings should be thinned in two stages until spacings of 15cm between plants is achieved. MATURITY September onwards. HANDY TIP Pull the thinnings carefully and remove from the site to avoid attracting onion fly. Thinnings can be used as salad onions. |
