The traditional ìspringî onion. Long white stems with bright green tops which are slow to form a bulb. Mild flavour. Sow from March to July.
WHEN TO SOW
February to July.
Early sowings in a cold fram or under cloches 1cm deep. Later sowings outside in shallow drills 1cm deep.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Salad or Spring Onions do not need transplanting or thinning. Remove cloches or frame cover by mid-April. Pull alternate onions to naturally thin the crop during the season.
MATURITY
Outdoor sowings are ready about 12 weeks after sowing.
HANDY TIP
Ideal for successional sowing. As they are in the garden for such a short time, they can be grown in between the slower growing vegetables. |
