WHEN TO SOW February to April. WHERE TO SOW Early sowings in trays under glass at 14ƒC only lightly coering with compost. Late sowings in the growing site 1cm deep in rows 30cm apart. WHAT TO DO NEXT Glasshouse seedlings should be pricked off into trays when about 15cm tall 5cm apart. Harden off and plant in growing site 15cm apart in early April. Outdoor sowings should be thinned in two stages until spacings of 15cm between plants is achieved. MATURITY September onwards. HANDY TIP Pull the thinnings carefully and remove from the site to avoid attracting onion fly. Thinngs can be used as salad onions. |
