Like chives the leaf is used for flavouring. Mild onion taste but much bulkier than chives. Height 50-60cm.
WHEN TO SOW
Outside in March/April in a shallow drill and cover lightly with soil. Keep the ground moist until germination.
GROW
in any rich garden soil, well drained in winter.
SITE
in sun or part shade.
DRY
the stems by cutting into small pieces and drying on a tray in a low oven (door ajar) or in the airing cupboard.
STORE
in an airtight jar and keep in a cool dark store.
USE
the ėgreenķ when Chives have died down for the winter. Use in the same way as Chives by chopping into green and tomato salads, potatoes, and combining with the ingredients of omelettes.
To produce the maximum green, do not allow to flower, keep watered during dry weather and spread compost around the clumps in spring.
