WHEN TO SOW Outside in March/April in a shallow drill and cover lightly with soil. Keep the ground moist until germination. GROW in any rich garden soil, well drained in winter. SITE in sun or part shade. DRY the stems by cutting into small pieces and drying on a tray in a low oven (door ajar) or in the airing cupboard. STORE in an airtight jar and keep in a cool dark store. USE the ėgreenķ when Chives have died down for the winter. Use in the same way as Chives by chopping into green and tomato salads, potatoes, and combining with the ingredients of omelettes. To produce the maximum green, do not allow to flower, keep watered during dry weather and spread compost around the clumps in spring. |
