WHEN TO SOW
February to May.
WHERE TO SOW
Sow four or five seeds in a 9cm pot under glass at a minimum of 25°C. Temperature must be maintained at night.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
As soon as the seedlings have produced three true leaves, prick off into individual pots. About four weeks later, plant out in the growing site 60cm apart. When watering, always use tap water at room temperature to avoid any bacterial infection. Water thoroughly and regularly.
MATURITY
July onwards.
HANDY TIP
One of the traditional ways to ensure germination is to fold a damp sheet of kitchen paper in half, and place the seeds on their edge in the fold. Then place ina plastic bag and put them in the airing cupboard. Check daily and once germinated, place in compost and grow on as normal. The fruits are at their best when about 20cm long. Do not leave older fruits on the vine. |
