Celery Golden Self Blanching
Celery  Golden Self Blanching Description:
The stalks are more yellow-green and not such a strong flavour as Giant White but a lot less work. Ready from about August onwards. 300 PLANTS Sow the seeds on the surface of the compost in seed trays or preferably in modules in March or early April at 14-15C. Maintain the tmeperature day and night. Prick off the seedlings as soon as they can be handled into individual pots or peat pots. Thin module sowings to single seedlings. Harden off before planting in the growing site in late May or June in blocks for self blanching types with 30cm each way. Traditional varieties should be planted in a trench 40cm wide and 30cm deep prepared the previous autumn. Space plants 35-45cm apart gradually filling in the trench as the plants grow.

WHERE TO SOW  

Sow the fine seed thinly in pots or trays under glass at 18°C. Leave seed on top of compost, do not cover.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

As soon as seedlings are large enough to handle, prick off into trays 5cm (2”) apart. When seedlings are 6-7cm (3-4”) tall, gradually harden off before planting out 20cm (9”) apart.

HANDY TIP

Celery requires very regular watering throughout the summer. Weak foliar feeding is beneficial.
