Cabbage  April Description:
An early spring variety with compact heads on dwarf plants. Can be planted at 30cm spacings as it makes few outer leaves. Spring Harvesting Sow the seeds thinly in a nursery bed in July or August in rows 15cm apart at a depth of 1cm. Thin the seedlings as they grow to about 8cm apart. In September or October the young plants should have 5 or 6 leaves and be transplanted to the growing site 45cm apart all round. Firmly tread in and water thoroughly.

Late July to early September.
WHERE TO SOW
Sow th seed thinly in a well prepared seed bed in shallow drills 2cm deep. Keep well watered.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Thin out the seedlings as they appear, to 5cm apart. When the seedlings are about 10-15cm tall, transplant to the growing site 35-40cm apart. Set the young plants 2cm deeper than they were in the seed bed.
MATURITY
Early April onwards.
HANDY TIP
The perfect variety to take the space previously used for early potatoes. Sow successionally to stagger the harvest.
