First introduced over 100 years ago. Heavy cropping white seeded type with long pods of 8 or 9 beans. Good flavour and a good freezer.

WHEN TO SOW
Febuary to April.
WHERE TO SOW
Early sowings in pots under glass or under cloches in the growing site. Later sowings directly into growing site 5cm deep in double rows 20cm apart.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Glasshouse seedlings should be transplanted to the growing site in March,  plants 10cm apart in double rows 20cm apart. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to 10cm apart, the thinned plantlets can be transplanted to make extra rows. When the first beans form, remove the top 6cm to discourage blackfly.
MATURITY
July onwards.
HANDY TIP
Usually grown from a spring sowing but in most years is successful from an October sowing for a June crop.
